If you’re self-publishing, especially via a company such as IngramSpark, you will need the services of a professional copyeditor, proofreader, typesetter and cover designer.

Getting all this done separately can lead to huge costs – but I can provide all four services in one, saving you hundreds of pounds while still ensuring a product of the highest quality.

There are thousands upon thousands of self-published books out there, so to have any chance of standing out from the crowd, you need to make sure your book is in the right format and free of errors.

What I don’t do is rewrite your book – but I will iron out any grammatical and style issues and make it read and flow as well as it possibly can. I will also point out any glaring plot inconsistencies and check factual details. For instance, one writer I recently worked with was astonished when I picked up the fact that a character could not have watched a certain film as the book was set before the film was made – but this is standard stuff that I am trained to spot. I also do not accept requests to edit student essays or dissertations, for two reasons. Firstly, although my prices are reasonable, work of this nature would still involve numerous hours of my time, so I would have to charge what would most likely be far beyond most students’ budgets, or work for a pittance, neither of which I’m willing to do. Secondly, I also do not wish to be associated in any way with student essay-writing services, which, frankly, border on cheating and usually involve plagiarism.

Also, you are the publisher so you must do your research on how and where to promote your book.

If you’re considering submitting your book to a publisher, although publishers should have in-house editors and designers, many smaller ones will not. It’s still a good idea to get your manuscript professionally edited before you start sending it around – first impressions are crucial. In this case I can supply a Word document showing my revisions via tracked changes, with explanatory notes if necessary. This option is cheaper than the full book design package.

Ebook conversion: if you are using a print/ebook solution such as IngramSpark, I can also convert your print book into the appropriate ebook format.
